Deposit And Late Fee Policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

This policy explains cash deposits, card security holds, and late return charges for motorbike rentals.

Deposits

  • Security is required before pickup and is separate from every reservation or full-prepayment amount.
  • Bring the full refundable security deposit in cash on pickup day.
  • Each motorcycle has its own deposit amount, shown before you book. A same-motorcycle reschedule keeps your agreed deposit.
  • A customer-requested bike change before actual handover uses the target bike’s current deposit. If cash is already held, collect any positive difference when agreeing the change. Card security must cover the full new amount; a replacement hold or full cash deposit may be required. A lower target deposit leaves the higher security held until return. Tamarind-caused replacements do not increase your agreed deposit.
  • Deposits are collected, returned, and withheld in Thai baht only. Staff do not accept a deposit in another currency.
  • At return, staff record the deposit as returned in full, partially withheld, or forfeited according to the recorded return outcome.
  • Withheld deposit amounts must be tied to a recorded reason such as damage, missing equipment, late return, or unpaid balance.

Card Holds

  • A hold reserves the agreed amount on your card; it is not a payment. Online Omise holds, when offered, last up to seven days and must cover the scheduled return plus 24 hours. We do not use rolling online holds for longer rentals.
  • Rentals too long for an online hold require cash.
  • Online invitations arrive on pickup morning or can be opened from a counter QR. The link works only during its stated window. The customer approves each hold in Omise’s hosted form, including any bank authentication. There is no automatic authorization renewal.
  • A debit-card hold blocks your own money. After release, your bank may take several days to restore the available balance; Tamarind cannot promise a bank release date. There is no extra fee for placing or releasing an uncharged hold.
  • For an extension or upgrade, the replacement hold must be confirmed before the old hold is released. This briefly requires room for both holds. Cash or another card is the alternative; card top-ups and mixed cash/card security are not available.
  • At return, staff release an unused hold or record one card charge for assessed charges within the hold. Any excess is settled separately. A lapsed, uncharged hold is not money returned to you.
  • If an online charge outcome is unknown, staff check it before collecting another payment. The original return assessment and physical return time stay fixed while this is checked; waiting adds no late fees. An unused hold may remain marked release requested until Omise confirms release.
  • If a bike is late and the hold is nearing its end, staff may charge the full hold as refundable security. This safety charge is held for you until inspection; it is not rental income. The unused amount is refunded to your card in full, and Tamarind absorbs the card fee.
  • Captured security does not expire with its former hold. Replacing it with a full cash deposit leaves the unused card amount separately owed until an actual refund is recorded.
  • Cancellation or no-show before handover returns any cash security or releases the unused card hold. A captured amount keeps its separate refund duty; rental-payment cancellation rules still apply.

Late Returns

  • The first 30 minutes after due-back are free. After that grace period, the late-return fee is THB 200 per started hour.
  • Each 24-hour late period is capped at the assigned model's current one-day rental price. A partial final late period uses the same started-hour calculation and cannot exceed that daily cap.
  • Staff may waive the calculated late fee only through the recorded return workflow with a reason.
  • An extension approved before due-back creates no late fee when the customer accepts it and availability remains clear. It may require a new quote or change record and cannot displace another hold or booking.

Records

  • A late fee or other return charge must be covered through recorded deposit withholding and/or an additional recorded payment before the return is completed.
  • Payment, deposit, waiver, reason, and return-charge records are retained for accounting and dispute handling. Cash, bank transfer, and QR payments may require reference notes or staff reconciliation.
  • A deposit is not treated as rental income unless it is withheld or otherwise converted through the recorded return process.
  • Return completion is the final boundary for new upward damage, fuel, late, and equipment charges. A later correction is recorded as a linked reduction or refund on the date it actually occurs; the original return is not rewritten.
